Kyowa Hakko Introduces Hydrafend™ Sodium Hyaluronate Acid
April 25, 2006
New York, N.Y. – Continuing its trend toward introducing branded ingredients, Kyowa Hakko USA has introduced Hydrafend™ a low Sodium Hyaluronate Acid that is a natural, animal-free fermentation-based ingredient.
In the human body, Hyaluronate Acid is found in high concentrations in the skin, connective tissues, joints and eye fluids. Hydrafend™ functions as a lubricant and highly effective moisturizer.
With age, the levels of Hyaluronate Acid in the body decrease, causing considerable reduction in the moisture binding capacity resulting in dry skin and joints.
One of the major natural moisturizing factors found in the skin, Hydrafend™ has the capacity to hold up to 500 times its own weight in water. Hyaluronate Acid has the ability to fill the space between cells, collagen and elastin fibers acting as a constant lubricant. It is also present in the synovial fluid of joints and eyes, providing moisturizing protection.
Kyowa Hakko uses its patented fermentation manufacturing process to produce Hydrafend™. This proprietary process eliminates any risk of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) contamination.
Orally, Hydrafend™ is recommended for use as a dietary supplement in tablet or capsule form to maintain healthy skin and joints. It is also suggested for use in skin care, nail treatment, make-up and lip care products.
Topical application benefits of Hydrafend™ Hyaluronate Acid include hydration of the skin and balance of moisture loss; increased moisture on the skin for improved smoothness and well being; and retention of the essential moisture in skin layers to combat wrinkling and reduce fine lines caused by dehydration.
"With the increased use for anti-aging nutrients, Hydrafend™ is a timely addition to our wide range of natural, animal-free ingredients," said Karen Todd, Kyowa Hakko senior marketing manager.
