John P. Richie, Jr., Ph.D. Sets the Record Straight About Glutathione
Febuary 27, 2009
New York, NY – John P. Richie, Jr., Ph.D., Professor of Public Health Sciences and Pharmacology at Penn State University School of Medicine will present Setria ® Glutathione - the Power to Protect discussing the multiple avenues for glutathione absorption and product formulation development at Supply Expo/Expo West on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The presentation takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center, Room 207C.
Dr. Richie has researched glutathione for over 25 years, including its role in protecting against oxidative damage during aging and the development of cancer at numerous sites in the body. Dr. Richie's research focuses on the factors that regulate glutathione, oxidative stress and cancer risk in individuals and in various populations. The presentation will include the nutritional regulation of glutathione during aging and mechanisms of cancer induction by oxidative stress and its protection by glutathione.
Glutathione, a tri-peptide, is made from glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. As the master antioxidant of the cell, it increases the effectiveness of the body's other antioxidants like Vitamin C and E and is involved in various reactions, such as the destruction of free radicals and the detoxification of harmful compounds.
Maintaining optimal Glutathione levels in cells and tissues is critical when maintaining health. Dr. Richie will explain about the benefit of orally administered Glutathione as a viable solution to sustain and increase Glutathione levels in the body. He will further discuss the three pathways of Glutathione uptake through the GI tract.
