Kyowa to Present Deep Dive into Brain Health Trends, Clinical Findings, Consumer Perceptions at IFT

Session Highlights Scope, Science of Cognitive Health Space

Clinical findings and synergies between different ingredients are the foundation of an informative, powerful IFT16 educational session on Monday, July 18th, 2016.

Experts from Kyowa Hakko, Nawgan and DSM Nutritional products will host the “Functional Ingredients for Cognitive Health in Food and Beverage Applications” symposium from 2:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. CDT, room 504abc in McCormick Place, Chicago, IL. The session will cover several important topics, including a presentation of overall trends in the brain health category including market growth trends, past and forecasted sales, trending brain health ingredients, social media trends, demographics and a look at consumer perception of brain health ingredients.

The symposium is divided into several discussion tracks:

  • Nutritional Guidelines: Information on vitamins and minerals pertaining to brain health and cognitive function.
  • Trending Cognitive Ingredients: Discussion around ingredients for brain health/cognitive function, with supporting scientific research including B-complex Vitamins, Vitamin D, Omega 3, and citicoline. The relationship between each ingredient and overall health will be shown through the most recent human studies.
  • Product Creation: Creating your next food or beverage with a brain health ingredient, with a focus on use and claims surrounding brain-health ingredients. Includes the marketing of functional food and beverages with brain health ingredients and the target audience of different brain health ingredients.
  • Media Outlook: Discussion on the positive and negative topics of brain health ingredients in the media – what gets the most positive/negative media attention and why?

“Our goal is to help attendees understand the scope of the cognitive health space when creating their next ingredient,” said Dr. Danielle Citrolo, Kyowa Hakko USA technical services manager. “We’ll present the science behind the ingredients, marketing trends and innovative approaches to product development.”

The symposium also will take a deeper dive at what consumers see as valuable in cognitive health products and how they view those products. “It is important that the science and ingredients match a particular consumer’s need for them,” said Karen Todd, RD senior director of global brand marketing for Kyowa Hakko USA.

Dr. Rob Paul, co-founder of Nawgan beverages, will lead a discussion on “Feeding the Brain and Ingredients for Cognitive Health” from 2:20 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. From 2:40 p.m. to 3 p.m., Michael I.
