April 10, 2006

New York, NY – Kyowa Hakko USA, the makers of Cognizin™ brand citicoline has announced the launch its newest branded ingredient Lumistor™ L-Hydroxyproline, a natural, animal-free fermentation-based amino acid.

The benefits of Lumistor™ include moisture retention of skin and proliferation of newborn human epidermal keratinocytes.

Lumistor™ is a pure, odorless, white crystalline powder that is water soluble and stable across a broad pH range enabling its application within a wide array of cosmetics and toiletries. Lumistor™ has a proven safety record for topical and oral use. Studies conducted by Kyowa Hakko have shown that L-Hydroxyproline can enhance the proliferation of epidermal cells and has a positive effect on moisture retention.

According to Karen Todd, senior marketing manager for Kyowa Hakko USA, Lumistor™ is beneficial as a cosmeceutical and a nutraceutical ingredient for maintaining healthy skin. “Lumistor™ is recommended for topical use in creams and lotions, or as a dietary supplement,” Todd said.

L-Hydroxyproline is present in the human body in relatively large amounts which supports its use as a safe dietary ingredient.

“Animal studies have confirmed L-Hydroxyproline safety and indicated it has a high potential for use as an effective “beauty from within” nutrient,” Todd added.

Lumistor™ L-Hydroxyproline is a primary constituent of skin collagen, connective tissue and bone. It has a physiological function in stabilizing the collagen 3-D structure. Lumistor™ is patent protected for use and the manufacturing process. The Kyowa proprietary fermentation process eliminates any risk of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) or Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) contamination.
